Restaurant NIRVANA is situated in the largest city park of the Netherlands: Zuiderpark. With a circumference of 215 acres and a two kilometre long promenade this park makes for a great get-away of the busy city centre.
Zuiderpark is the perfect location for an active day out. Take a relaxing stroll, rent a canoe or play football. The park is open all year and has activities for every season, it is even possible to take a refreshing dip in the lake in summer months.
But Zuiderpark offers more. There are some free activities to attend, the park displays art from different local artists and next to Zuiderpark is a large event terrain for festivals. Some examples of these activities are: Zuiderparkdays, circus or carnivals. The park also contains pettingzoo ‘De Molenwei’, a cultural historical garden and Manor The Elephant (De Olifant in Dutch).
Zuiderpark is located in the south of Rotterdam, hence the name, and is secluded from the busy city centre. Rotterdam is the second largest city of the Netherlands in relation to inhabitants. But this city is also crucial for the entire European Union, because it is the largest port city in Europe.
Rotterdam was one of the heaviest bombed cities in the Netherlands, leaving most of the city destroyed. This is why the city is mostly brand new and gives a young and fresh feeling. Here are some sights you will want to see during your visit to Rotterdam:
- The Euromast
In 30 seconds you can reach the top of this 100 metre high tower. From the top you will have a breath-taking view of the city and the harbour. The cabin offers a 360 view and gives you the opportunity to walk around and discover the Dutch landscape.
- The Markthal
The Markthal is an indoor market with over 100 mini-shops in Rotterdam Blaak. This impressive building is great for getting some local delicacies or just taking in the architecture. The tunnel shaped building not only has shops but is covered in apartments over top as well, very impressive sight to behold.
One of the few places that survived the bombing during WW2: Marina Delfshaven. Here you can learn more about pre-war Rotterdam and take in the traditional marina as they were in the Netherlands.
- The Erasmus Bridge
Most Dutch people have a clear image when thinking of Rotterdam and one thing everyone thinks of is the iconic Erasmus Bridge. This bridge was designed in 1996 and links north to south Rotterdam. The bridge offers a beautiful view of the skyline of Rotterdam.
Rotterdam is located in the province South-Holland, in the centre of city region Rotterdam. Surrounding municipalities are: Westland, Maassluis, Delft, Ridderkerk and Capelle aan den Ijssel.
